Thrace Region
Continue
The Thrace region is the largest region in Bulgaria and is located in the southwest of Bulgaria (number 5 on the image). It includes the small region of Strandja which is sometimes considered an ethnographic region.
Danse
Dance
In this region, the dance movements are small and fast. For men, the dance is quite dynamic and includes tapping with the feet on the ground and clapping strongly with the hands. The men dance calmly and proudly and give off an air of respect and confidence. In the women, the movements of the hands are graceful and the movements of the feet are very diverse. Examples of movements are the nojichki (scissors with the feet on the ground), the hlopki (sticking his heels together as in the videos) and the spusaci (small kicks forward).
The famous dances of this region are: Trite puti (three times), trakiiska rachenica, kopanica and buchimish.
Traditional Clothes
Women
The Thrace female costume is composed of a long cotton shirt decorated with lace and the embroidery of a coat called "sukman". This coat is generally black with a red apron, but it can vary in color depending on the location. For example, if he is red with a black apron, it is likely that we are near the border with the region of Dobrudja, because their clothes are similar. The embroidered patterns on the costume and the apron are red, blue, orange, green or white and they invoke floral and natural elements.
Men
The Thrace male costume is of the “chernodreshen” type meaning black / dark clothing. It consists of black or brown pants sometimes decorated with black patterns, a cotton shirt embroidered with floral patterns, a red belt and a red or green jacket open at the front. Sometimes men can wear the classic “kalpak” hat.
